Doctors Association of Bangladesh - DAB

The late 1980s. Ordinary people of the country, from all walks of life, were standing up against the autocratic regime. The united movement was turning into a mass uprising. At that critical juncture of the nation, doctors who believed in the ideology of the martyred President Ziaur Rahman could not sit idle either. Inspired by Bangladeshi nationalism, a few doctors felt the need to unite Bangladeshi nationalist doctors into a single platform. This was to strengthen the hands of the leader of the nation, Begum Khaleda Zia, in the anti-autocracy movement through unity. From this thought, on August 6, 1989, at a clinic in Dhaka, 17 doctors gathered at a meeting initiated by a few nationalist doctors and initiated the Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB). A convenor committee was formed to manage the activities of DAB, with Dr. Md. Zakir Hossain as its convenor.Before the full committee was formed, Dr. Farhad Halim Donar, Dr. Mahbubur Rahman Liton, and Dr. Md. Ahmed Ali successively served as the member secretary. Later, DAB started its first formal journey through an Iftar party at the Great Wall Chinese Restaurant in Shantinagar, attended by about 100 doctors.

DAB is committed to promoting public health, advancing medical education and research, upholding medical ethics, protecting physicians rights, and delivering humanitarian healthcare services across Bangladesh.
